ABSENCES:

All absences or late arrivals can be emailed to [email protected] or called in at (716) 646-3288.

An email notification will count as your child's written excuse. This change is to make the process easier for our families.
If calling in the absence, please verbally provide the information above. A written excuse must still be sent in with your child so that we have the required written documentation of reason for the absence.

When emailing or calling about an absence or late arrival, please state:

  • Child's name
  • Child's teacher's name
  • Reason for absence

DISMISSAL CHANGES THAT HAPPEN ONCE THE SCHOOL DAY HAS STARTED:
If you are unable to send in a note, because the school day has already started, please send an email to [email protected]. You will receive confirmation from one of the secretaries that your email has been received. If you do not hear back, please call the main office.

All Changes need to be emailed before 1:00 PM.

Please state:

  • Child's name
  • Child's teacher's name
  • Dismissal changes that are to be made for that day

These procedures will ensure that the information is communicated to all of our office staff, in the event of a staff member's absence.

If your family will be traveling, please fill out and return the Family Vacation Form before your trip so that those missed dates will not become illegal absences.

Guidelines for Keeping Your Child Home From School:

  • fever in the past 24 hours
  • vomiting in the past 24 hours
  • diarrhea in the past 24 hours
  • strep throat until on antibiotics for 24 hours
  • bad cold, with a very runny nose, extremely congested, or a bad cough that would be disruptive, especially if it has kept the child awake at night
  • head lice until treated and lice free
  • pink-eye until on antibiotic eye drops for 24 hours
  • undiagnosed rash

Medication at School, how does it work?

  • Medication will be given by the school nurse or designated personnel, only.
  • A physician's prescription is required for all medication given at school or school-sponsored activities, including over the counter medication (Tylenol, cough drops or herbal remedies).
  • Parental written permission should accompany the physician's request.
  • Parents/guardians are responsible for having medications delivered directly to the school in a properly labeled original container by an adult, unless student has a health care provider attestation to carry and use their medication independently (see below).
  • Please bring all medication directly to the to the school health office.
  • If your child's health care provider decides your child can carry and use their diabetes, asthma or epinephrine auto-injector medication independently and you wish them to do so, they must put in writing (attest) that your child can do so safely. We have a form they can use to provide this information if they wish.
  • Please ask the pharmacist to give you a second labeled container for prescription medications so we can send this bottle on field trips.
  • Sending small containers of any OTC medications makes it easier to send the correct amount needed on field trips and comply with New York State laws pertaining to medication storage
  • Medication forms are available on our district web site or may be obtained from the School Health Office. Your physician may use their own form if desired.

Who needs a physical?

New York State has revised the requirements for school age children.

As of July 1, 2018, New York State law requires a health examination and up to date physical on file in the Health Office for all students entering the school district for the first time, and when entering Pre-K, K, 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, and 11th grade.

A copy of the health examination must be provided to the school within 30 days from when your child first starts at the school. If a copy is not given to the school within 30 days, the school will contact you.

If your child has an appointment for an exam during this school year that is after the first 30 days of school, please notify the Health Office with the date.

New York State will recognize the physical for one year.

Physical forms can be obtained through the web site or have the personal care physician send their own form.

We suggest you make copies of the completed forms for your own records before sending or faxing them to the school health office.
